The basics

Is a signed IOU legally binding?

A signed IOUEZ agreement is a clear written record with both signatures, timestamps and a full history. In many places that helps a lot if there is ever a disagreement, but IOUEZ is not a law firm. For large amounts, check the rules where you live.

Does the other person need the app?

They need a free IOUEZ account to sign, but not the app: they can sign in any browser with the web app. Until they join, you can keep the IOU as your own record.

Is it really free?

Yes. Personal IOUs, signatures, change requests and reminders are free forever. Pro adds installment plans, witnesses, insights, the calendar link, AI fill and an ad-free app for $4.99 a month.

Who can see my agreements?

Only you and the person you share an agreement with (and, for a business or organization, its staff with the right role). Data is encrypted in transit and you can delete your account at any time.

Can we change an agreement after signing?

Yes, with a change request: ask for a new due date, amount or payment plan, and the other person accepts or declines. The history keeps both versions.

Does it work offline?

Yes, in the Android app. Changes are saved on your phone and sync automatically when you are back online.

Which currencies are supported?

US dollars by default, plus euros, pounds and many more. Each agreement keeps its own currency and totals are shown per currency, never mixed.

Does IOUEZ move or hold money?

No. IOUEZ records what was agreed and what was paid. Payments happen the way you choose (cash, bank transfer, PayPal, Zelle…), and the borrower can see your payment details on the agreement.

Signing, payments and changes

How does the borrower record a payment?

They tap Record a payment on the agreement. The lender gets a notification and confirms it, and the balance updates for both.

Can someone witness the agreement?

Yes. On Pro, a witness or a guarantor can sign in person on your device. They appear on the agreement and on the PDF certificate page.

What if the other person never signs?

The agreement stays unsigned and you can still keep it as your own record, send a reminder to sign, or withdraw it.

Can I cancel an agreement?

Before both sign, the creator can withdraw it. After signing, either side can ask to cancel and the other accepts or declines. A lender can also forgive what is left.

How does AI fill work?

You write what happened in a sentence; the form is filled with what was understood. Nothing is saved until you check it and press Create. It is part of Pro.

How do I get due dates in my calendar?

On Pro, Settings → Calendar gives you a private link for Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook. It updates on its own.

Businesses and organizations

What is a workspace?

A shared space for a family, a business or an organization, with its own members, roles and agreements, separate from your personal IOUs.

Can my staff use their own accounts?

Yes. You invite them by email or link, give each a role, and can suspend or remove them at any time.

Is there an API?

Yes, on Organization Plus: API keys and webhooks, with IP allow-lists on Enterprise.

Do you support single sign-on?

Yes, on Enterprise: single sign-on for staff and SCIM provisioning from your identity provider.
