Two-step sign-in with an authenticator app

Add a 6-digit code from an authenticator app to your sign-in, when two-step sign-in is available.

Updated Oct 2, 2026 · 2 min read

Two-step sign-in asks for a 6-digit code from an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or 1Password) as well as your password, when you sign in on a new device.

Good to know: Two-step sign-in is switched on by the site owner. If you don’t see a Two-step sign-in card in Settings, it isn’t available yet.

Turn it on

  1. Verify your email address first. See Verify your email address.
  2. Go to Settings → Two-step sign-in and choose Turn on.
  3. Confirm it’s you by signing in again.
  4. In your authenticator app, add an account: scan the code on screen, or type the key shown below it (on a phone, Open in your authenticator app may do this for you).
  5. Enter the 6-digit code your app shows now.

Signing in

After your password, enter the code your authenticator app shows. If a code doesn’t work, check that the time on your phone is set automatically and use the newest code.

Turn it off

Go to Settings → Two-step sign-in, choose Turn off and confirm it’s you.
