In a busy group, everyone may owe a little to everyone. Simplify debts works out the fewest payments that bring everyone to zero.
How it works
Turn on Simplify debts in the group. Instead of each person paying back each payer separately, IOUEZ suggests a short list of payments. The biggest debtor pays the person owed the most, and so on, until everyone is even.
Example
Ana owes Ben $20 and Ben owes Cal $20. With simplify debts on, Ana pays Cal $20 directly, and Ben doesn’t need to do anything.
Good to know: With simplify debts, money may be routed through someone else: you may pay a person you didn’t share an expense with. The totals are the same either way.
